About our principal...
This school year, Dr. James Davis has served as a Principal Resident at Eduardo Mata Montessori and Young Women's STEAM Academy. He was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Dr. Davis earned a Master in Educational Administration from Cambridge College in Cambridge Massachusetts. Dr. Davis began his career in education as an elementary school teacher within the Atlanta Public School District. Later, he served as a math interventionist and administrator at a single-gender middle school. Recently, he earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from National University in San Diego, California.
In 2017, Dr. Davis relocated to Dallas, Texas to continue his work of promoting student growth and building strong partnerships with staff and community stakeholders. He joined Dallas I.S.D. as a Campus Instructional Coach at Larry G. Smith Elementary School and was promoted to Assistant Principal, where he served for 4 years. During the 2021-2022 school year, Dr. Davis helped the school earn its “B” rating and three distinctions in mathematics, science and closing the gaps.
Seeking a new challenge, Dr. Davis moved to Young Men's Leadership Academy at Fred F. Florence Middle School as a Sixth Grade Assistant Principal during the 2022-2023 school year. He led the math, science and social studies departments. Dr. Davis was successful in helping math students move closer to their individual goals while closing achievement gaps. He also contributed to improving staff climate and culture while at YMLA.
Last year, Dr. Davis successfully completed the Future Principals Institute and is eager to provide instructional leadership and support to staff and students on his own campus within Dallas I.S.D. His leadership style reflects the belief that academic achievement, equity, compassion, and enthusiasm contribute to a positive school culture and climate. Dr. Davis understands that students are the most important resource on any campus and that their lives should be positively impacted.
